Jaya Lakshmi has been sharing her beautiful kirtans for over ten years.  She has recently partnered with her new love, Ananda Yogiji. They sing and play music that initiates deep healing and opens the heart to divine joy, sharing the grace they have been given through their partnership. Offering a combination of kirtan (call and response singing), mantra repetition, bhajan and original songs, they mix English, Sanskrit and Gurumukhi as a bridge for all those who have been mysteriously called to Yoga and teachings from India.   Alternating guitar, harmonium, bansuri flutes and vocal weaving, they create a magic together that sets the stage for the Devas and Devis to dance upon.

PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL BIO: Forest has been  teaching 3 times a week at Joy of movement Yoga studio in Kauai and the Dome workshop and intensional event space in Kapaa. In the last few years I have consistently taught at the Oak Street
Dance studio in Ashland. The Ohm Yoga studio in Portland, Soul Shine
retreat center in Bali, Bamboo Bakti Bungalow in Bali, and many more.

In the early 1980s Yeshe met Canadian musician Harry Manx, known for his
blend of Blues, Folk, and Hindustani Classical music. Yeshe and Manx became
good friends and worked and toured together with many different acts around
the globe. Manx would have a tremendous and powerful influence on Yeshe’s
future musical development, eventually inspiring his solo career. In the
mid 1980s Yeshe would leave Europe and Africa for a time to explore the
music and cultures of Asia and the Pacific Islands. He would spend five
years in Japan working as a session musician with several other Japanese and
international artists. During this time, Yeshe traveled throughout Asia to
absorb the various percussion styles of its many cultures. He was invited
to study with the Peliatan Gamelan Orchestra in Bali, the Kodo Drummers of
Sado Island in Japan, and the Samul Nori of South Korea. Yeshe had explored
a new continent and expanded his musical experience by absorbing Asian
Elements.

By the mid 1990s, Yeshe had found a new place to call home in Australia and
performed locally there with many bands. In addition, he continued to tour
internationally with the likes of Harry Manx and Ganga Giri. While in Santa
Fe, New Mexico in 1996, Yeshe met American singer/songwriter Chris Berry of
the band Panjea. Berry was a master mbira player that had already released
many successful songs in Zimbabwe. It was this important meeting that
sparked Yeshe’s interest in the mbira. Yeshe became proficient on the mbira
with the help of many teachers and friends, especially Garikayi Tirikoti, a
well known mbira virtuoso. Yeshe says of Garikayi; “When I heard him play
for the first time that was it! I would compare him to someone like
Coltrane or Beethoven and I seldom left his sight after that when in
Zimbabwe.” Garikayi became Yeshe’s main teacher and close friend and
transformed him into talented mbira player. The mbira quickly became a
centerpiece of Yeshe’s music.

A local Maui treasure, “Auntie Pua’s Picks” zero in on finding and experiencing what is truly Hawaiian and local for kamaaina (literally people of the land or locals) and visitors to the garden isle. Auntie Pua is a sought after speaker on Hawaiian history and tradition and enjoys sharing her wonderful mana and aloha with everyone.

Ananda is a musician and world traveler who like many has been inspired by the Indian influences of Yoga and Bhakti. His own path took him deeply into the ancient teachings of Yoga, especially Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan.

He has been teaching yoga and meditation consistently (primarily Kundalini) for over 5 years in Eugene Oregon and in all his travels.

I found many online music sites that described Frankie Hernandez’s music as a cross between Ben Harper, Bob Marley, Sublime and Ozomatli. He has even been referred to as the “Latino Stevie Wonder,” with his dazzling lyrics along with his soft and subtle, yet direct singing-style. Darren Minke is a Visual Alchemist – he uses many different mediums to bring his visions to life.  His stained wood series began as an experiment 10 yrs ago, and has been developing ever since.

He starts by finding  pieces of plywood that have interesting wood grain patterns, and then attempts to discover the images that lie within those patterns.  By applying and removing a series of wood stain washes, he slowly defines the boundaries of the visions he sees in the wood.  He will often use oil paint, photo transfers, and gold leaf to further accentuate the image.  The final artwork has the beauty and luminance of a fine piece of polished wood, which contains the image of his vision within its depths.  These visions range from divine ecstasy to dark and mythical dramas.

Darren’s Digital Art uses collaged photographs to create detailed, psychedelic imagery that maintains the color and vibrance of a traditional painting.  His images have a very strong earth based, divine feminine theme.  He will often mix metaphors and symbols from different religions and philosophies to create a synthesis for a more evolved meaning.  It is his hope that these images resonate with his audience, and inspire them to cherish and protect the earth, and seek to expand their conscious evolution.

Divino is a devotional guitarist playing more than 40 years. He has been a integral part of the Maui Music scene for 35 years. His Tuesday night jams are legendary. In addition to his formal training, Allowah has studied Yoga with other teachers in India and the U.S., including Sri Karunamayi, David Swenson, Sri Anandi Ma, Ganga White, Tracey Rich, and Dharma Mittra. Jason Milne completed, then taught, the four-year university level Yoga and Meditation Program at Agama Yoga, Thailand, a Yoga Alliance and International Yoga Federation certified school. Rachel Gonzalez is the founder & owner of Body Alive. She has been a certified yoga teacher since 2003. She completed her teacher training at Kalani Honua on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Her training is heavily influenced by  Hatha and Ashtanga practices.

Rachel was the General Manager of Kalani Honua, a retreat center located in the beautiful jungle of Puna in 2000 when she discovered her love of yoga through the help of her teacher and mentor Kathy Elder. Rachel adopted Kathy’s philosophy as her own:  “Yoga shows us the way to develop a greater understanding of ourselves and to the world around us. Yoga makes everything better.”

Rachel has continued expanding through her experiences in Hawaii as well as abroad- traveling and teaching in India, New Zealand and Bali where she has deepened her practice through continued education in Hatha, Ashtanga and Vinyasa styles. Rachel taught in Kona on the Big Island for 4 years then moved her teachings to Wailuku were she has been teaching at her studio, previously known as Body of Light, for the past 3 years. She continues to teach multi level class in Gentle Flo, Vinyasa Flo, Lunchtime Yoga and Broga. Her series of sequences are inspired by the traditional Hatha practice, as well as the Ashtanga series and life’s challenges.

Rachel has always felt that people take themselves and life to seriously and continually strives to incorporate laughter and excitement in her classes, which has been a goal in her personal life with her various different careers. Cheeta started teaching hula hoop at kids birthday partys in Michigan near her home town. For the last 3 years Cheeta has been teaching hula hoop workshops along the coast of Oregon and California. Cheeta helped teach at Pema Osel Ling Hula Hoop Camp 2012 as well as taught at several festivals, including Heart Bliss, Cognitive Awakening, Burning Man, and Mystic Garden Gathering. Her circus style workshops incorporate different types of dance such as modern and shamanic with a yoga twist. Cheeta currently teaches hula hoop workshops for kids and adults at the Aerial Playground in Santa Cruz, CA.

David grew up in Southern California where he first started playing music. He comes from a family of musicians. All the women on his mothers side were pianists. His grandfather Ken Gronstal used to play jazz out on the street during the great depression and was able to bring home enough money to feed the family. Just before the war his grandfather was approached by RCA records to sign a record deal as a singer, from the era of Bing Crosby. But as fate would have it, he was drafted into the war, and his dream of being a recording artist never came to pass. By grace he survived the war as a proud veteran and father of 3 including David’s mother. David continues to carry the dreams of his grandfather…

In 2010 David independently released his debut album, “In This Moment”, and soon his second album, “Return Of The Sun”, to be released this summer 2012.

As a youth, David first sang in choir’s while trying to learn piano, guitar, and bass. But he found his true heartbeat playing the drums during middle school. David continued to play drums in many genre’s of music from punk rock, to jazz through high school and his early college years. Around this time he also began writing his own songs. By then the restless spirit in him was ready to fly.

In his early twenties, David moved out of his apartment and began hitchhiking all over the U.S. with a backpack and a guitar, later moving to Hawaii to live for many years. During these years his faith in the mystery of life always led him to beautiful places and these experiences became inspiration for his music.

Along his journey David met many good people, including native tribal elders from North and South America. They continue to share with him their teachings and songs through ceremonial ways and have taught him a way of life. These universal spiritual truths are woven into his lyrics, which could be interpreted as songs for a lover or for the love of the creator. Songs with a message of love and hope.

Our Venue is a beachfront site in Kihei, Maui with a cafeteria, showers, a stage, and plenty of room for camping! Amazin” Maesyn is an amused modern Muse and a force of nature. Her artistry encompasses a broad spectrum of natural talents.

Though her favorite instrument is her wickedly dexterous whistle, she is also a heart-centered violinist, pianist, guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, who dabbles in ukelele and the spoons.
Classically trained on violin and piano since the age of 4, Maesyn composes all of her own orchestration, and thrives on improvisation. She fronts her own band, and also has performed on stage for thousands, guesting in with artists such as Matisyahu, and Killa Priest from Wu Tang Clan. She spent many moons as the singer for the conscious west coast hip-hop band, Luminaries.

Her music is an amalgamation of funky grooves, sultry passionate vocals, orchestral musicality, sophisticated lyricism, and inspirational esotericism.

Micah, or Micahananda, as named by his guru, was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan under the blessing of Yogacharia, one of the last disciples of Paramahansa Yogananda. Yogananda, was one of the key facilitating forces that initiated the migration of the ancient sciences of Yoga to the Western world.  He channeled and developed the science of Krya yoga which, through his disciple Yogacharia, was the initial yogic system that Micah was born into. At eighteen Micah took flight to Los Angeles with his sights set on Hollywood, and began his journey into the film industry. The city of Angels had it’s own challenges and obstacles. Full of culture and knowledge, but also chaos and disruption. He took refuge in the ancient sciences of a variance of yogic systems, as he had access to several in one of the Meccas’ of spiritual enlightenment. One day, he met a yogi that changed his life forever. His name is Metananda. They were kindred spirits and instantly took to each other.  Metananda, a South Indian man raised Muslim till the age of eighteen, when he spread his wings and soared to the Western World from India where he found the true science and philosophy of his people.
